Your author portrait is often the first impression a reader, publisher, or journalist has of you. It should feel like you — confident, approachable, and true to your voice as a writer.

Sessions take place at my dedicated photography studio in Herne Hill, South East London, where I work with a range of backdrops and lighting setups to suit your style. Whether you want something clean and minimal for a publisher submission or something more atmospheric and expressive for a literary festival profile, I'll guide you through the whole session so you feel relaxed and get results you're genuinely happy with.

All final images are professionally retouched and delivered in high resolution, ready for print and digital use. Every package includes outfit guidance before your session, so you arrive prepared and confident.

Frequently Asked Questions

What should I wear for an author headshot?+
Bring two or three outfits in neutral or muted tones that suit your personality and genre. Clean, simple clothing works best. Avoid heavy patterns or logos. If you can, brink more options than neccessary, and we can work together to decide what works best.
Where is the studio?+
Sessions take place at my photography studio in Herne Hill, South East London, which is easily accessible from central London by rail and bus.
How long does an author portrait session take?+
Sessions range from 30 minutes to 2 hours depending on your package. Even the shortest session is enough time for a strong, polished result.
What are the images used for?+
Author headshots are commonly used for book covers and jackets, author bio pages, Amazon and Goodreads profiles, publisher and agent submissions, press and media features, websites, and social media.
When will I receive my images?+
Edited images are typically delivered within a 7-10 business days of your session. This can sometime be quicker, depending on my workload, or if you'd like faster delivery, 48h Express Editing is available to purchase as an add-on.
Can I buy additional edited images?+
Yes. Extra retouched images can be purchased after your session if you'd like more options.
Do you only photograph fiction writers?+
Not at all. I regularly work with novelists, non-fiction authors, journalists, academics, poets, and other creatives who need professional portraits for their public profile.
